Berlin: ISD World Summit 2026 deliberates on Africa’s Voice in Global Diplomacy

Africans in Germany are invited to attend the ISD World Summit 2026 on Saturday, 31 October, in Berlin, where publisher and journalist Femi Awoniyi will speak on the role of African media and diaspora communities in shaping international cooperation.

Organised by the Canada-based International Society of Diplomats (ISD) in collaboration with the Berlin-based tubman.network e.V., the conference will take place at the University of Europe in Berlin. It is being held under the theme “Economic Diplomacy for Peace and Global Stability” and is expected to bring together diplomats, academics, civil society representatives, youth leaders and other changemakers.

Awoniyi, publisher and editor-in-chief of The African Courier, will deliver a talk titled “Africa’s Voice in Global Diplomacy: The Role of Media and the Diaspora in Shaping International Cooperation.”

The talk will examine how African media can help shape international narratives about the continent, bring African perspectives into global discussions and strengthen understanding between Africa and its international partners. It will also consider the potential of African diaspora communities to serve as bridges between their countries of residence and their countries of origin, contributing knowledge, networks and experience to international cooperation.

The conference’s theme is particularly relevant to Africans seeking stronger representation in global decision-making and more equitable economic partnerships. Economic diplomacy can play an important role in promoting trade, investment and collaboration, while creating opportunities to address shared challenges through dialogue and peaceful engagement.

ISD, the summit’s organiser, is an international organisation dedicated to promoting diplomacy, international cooperation, peace and social justice. Its work includes supporting peacebuilding and conflict resolution, providing orientation and training in diplomacy and international relations, promoting trade and investment, and encouraging young people to pursue diplomacy as a profession. The organisation also seeks to foster cooperation between governments, international agencies and other actors to address global challenges.

The summit’s co-host, tubman.network e.V., is a Berlin-based grassroots organisation working with children, young people, families and communities of African and Afro-diasporic heritage. Its work spans education, psychosocial support, advocacy, participatory research, arts and cultural activities, and community empowerment. The organisation seeks to strengthen participation, address structural barriers and amplify the voices of communities that are often underrepresented. Its involvement adds a community-centred perspective to the summit’s international focus.

Africans in Berlin and surrounding areas are encouraged to attend, contribute their perspectives and connect with people working in diplomacy, business, media and civil society.
