Germany: Nigerian Diplomats to Hold Town Hall Meeting with Citizens

The Nigerian Consulate General in Frankfurt will hold a town hall meeting with Nigerians on Friday, 1 August 2025, in Frankfurt am Main. The event, part of its Consular and Migration Sensitization Programme, is organised in collaboration with the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) Germany.

The programme aims to strengthen engagement between the Nigerian diplomatic mission and citizens across Germany through direct dialogue on consular and migration issues.

In a public announcement, Dr Mathew Okeyim, Public Relations Officer of NIDO Germany, called on Nigerians in Germany “to ensure maximum attendance and representation” at the event, noting that it offers an important opportunity to bring issues of concern directly to the attention of the Consul General so that appropriate solutions can be found.

The meeting in Frankfurt comes at a time when many Nigerians in Germany continue to face pressing challenges requiring consular support, including passport-related difficulties and assistance in legal matters involving German authorities.

In this context, regular communication between citizens and diplomatic missions is not only desirable but essential.

“The Consular and Migration Sensitization Programme is intended to serve as a vital platform for accountability, confidence building and mutual understanding,” Okeyim explained. “It allows our diplomatic representatives to explain policies, clarify procedures and receive feedback from the diaspora. Equally, it creates a space for citizens to express concerns, share lived experiences and propose practical solutions to challenges in their communities.”

The upcoming session will feature discussions on topics such as passport processing, dual nationality and support for Nigerian professionals and students in Germany.

With an estimated 80,000 Nigerians living in Germany, sustained dialogue between the diplomatic mission and the diaspora is key to responsive and effective representation.
