Africa Fashion Week holds in Amsterdam

This year’s Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam (AFWA) takes place from 25 to 27 August at the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam. Emerging fashion designers from 24 countries will take part in the three-day event, celebrating African and African-inspired fashion, art and cultural heritage.

AFWA 2016 kicks off with a press conference on 24 August, providing an opportunity for the media to meet and interview participating designers, the Nollywood superstar who is also the Week’s host, Ramsey Nouah, and other renowned artists who will be opening the event.

The event, whose theme is “Touch of Ankara”, will feature, among others, catwalk shows, a men’s day and a gala night.
“We aim to encourage and empower the youth, creating job opportunities through the development of the African fashion industry,” says Diana Tambe, the chief executive and founder of AFWA. “We are a platform to create demand and supply internationally.”

AFWA is one of the largest gatherings of African fashion designers, models, exhibitors, buyers, retailers, media, fashion influencers and businesses in Europe.
