Images from Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam 2016

The fashion industry event, Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam (AFWA), took place on 25-27 August at the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam. Emerging fashion designers from 24 countries took part in the three-day event, celebrating African and African-inspired fashion, art and cultural heritage.

AFWA is an event for designers and brands to showcase upcoming collections to press, media, stylists, buyers, fashion trailblazers and, in some cases, the public. Day 3 of the fair showed detailed and classic fashion style from the menswear segment collections. Four designers showed their collections, all with a nod to the two cultures from Africa and Europe: Kwame Koranteng (UK/Ghana), Krachtvrouwen Oude Westen (the Netherlands), Ethnic Mode (France/Ivory Coast), Abrantie the Gentleman (Ghana).

The designers of the men’s fashion live in Africa and Europe. They all use elements of both cultures and their collections are a fusion of elements from the South and the West. Here are some of the creations on display at the 3-day event:
