The sixth German-African Business Summit (GABS) will take place in Accra, Ghana, from 23 to 25 November 2026, bringing together senior business executives, investors, policymakers and entrepreneurs from Germany and across Africa to discuss trade, investment and economic cooperation.
The summit, organised by the Sub-Saharan Africa Initiative of German Business (SAFRI) together with the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana, is billed as one of the major platforms for German business engagement with sub-Saharan Africa. More than 600 participants are expected.
A particular attraction of this year’s summit will be the participation of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and and his Ghanaian counterpart, John Dramani Mahama. Afrika-Verein has announced both leaders as keynote speakers.
Focus on business and investment
The summit comes at a time when Germany and African countries are seeking to deepen economic relations beyond traditional development cooperation. The official programme puts finance and investment, energy and green growth, digitalisation and artificial intelligence, agribusiness, healthcare, raw materials, infrastructure and logistics among its central themes. The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), digital trade infrastructure, start-ups, entrepreneurship and women’s participation in business will also feature.
For Ghana, hosting the summit offers an opportunity to present the country as a base for German companies seeking access to West African and wider African markets. Germany’s trade with Ghana is already significant: according to the Federal Foreign Office, German imports from Ghana were worth €290 million in 2025, while German exports to Ghana amounted to €274 million. Ghana’s main exports to Germany include raw materials and food products, while German exports include machinery, chemicals and food products.
Opportunities beyond the main summit
GABS is part of a broader programme of business activities in Accra. For example, an IT and digital-services investment day is scheduled for 23 November, focusing on Ghana’s digital economy and opportunities for German companies. A separate German business delegation organised by AHK Ghana and GIZ will run from 23 to 26 November, including company visits, B2B meetings and networking with Ghanaian technology companies and public-sector stakeholders.
The summit will therefore be of interest not only to large German corporations but also to African entrepreneurs, diaspora businesses, investors and professionals in Germany looking for partnerships or market opportunities in Africa.
The main GABS programme will be held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra. The organisers currently list a regular conference ticket at €420 plus VAT.
One date clarification is worth noting: while the main GABS itself is officially scheduled for 23–25 November; related delegations and side events extend to 27 November.
