CMS Stiftung Boosts YANA Berlin with Free Legal Clinic for African Refugees and Migrants

The German-African Initiative for Development and Integration (GAIDI gUG) has launched a free legal clinic for refugees and migrants in Berlin under its You Are Not Alone in Berlin (YANA Berlin) project, thanks to a grant provided by CMS Stiftung in August. This new service marks a significant expansion of YANA Berlin’s support for African newcomers navigating the complex legal and administrative landscape of life in Germany.

YANA Berlin — which relaunched its current project phase on 1 April with the backing of partners such as Stiftung Berliner Sparkasse and UNO-Flüchtlingshilfe — has steadily grown into a trusted advisory network offering hotline assistance, individual consultations, expert-led information sessions and mentoring programmes to ease integration challenges faced by asylum-seekers and other newly-arrived African migrants.

The newly established legal clinic provides free initial legal advice on critical matters such as asylum procedures, residence status, family reunification and other migration-related legal questions. Staffed by legal professionals with expertise in migration law, the clinic aims to bridge the gap for many who are unable to access paid legal support but urgently need guidance to assert their rights and stabilise their status in Germany.

By enabling free legal counselling, CMS Stiftung reinforces broader efforts to dismantle structural barriers that often hinder socio-economically vulnerable groups from securing legal protections and opportunities.

CMS Stiftung’s mission is “Zugang zum Recht. Für alle.” — ensuring that all people, regardless of financial means, can access and benefit from the justice system — and the foundation’s support for this initiative directly reflects that commitment. By enabling free legal counselling, CMS Stiftung reinforces broader efforts to dismantle structural barriers that often hinder socio-economically vulnerable migrants from securing legal protections and opportunities.

The free legal clinic is integrated into YANA Berlin’s comprehensive support framework and open to refugees and migrants seeking reliable legal guidance in a welcoming environment. Interested individuals can contact GAIDI gUG for details on consultation times and appointment arrangements.

With the support of CMS Stiftung, GAIDI gUG continues to uphold YANA Berlin’s ethos — you are not alone in Berlin — and reaffirms its dedication to empowering African migrants every step of the way.
