Queen of Nollywood to be crowned in Ludwigshafen, Germany

The second edition of Queen of Nollywood Awards Germany will take place in the south-western German city of Ludwigshafen on Saturday, 2 December. The event honours practitioners of the Nigerian home-grown movie industry.

Among those to be honoured at the event are actors, directors, producers, diplomats, businesspeople and politicians – persons who have in one way or the other contributed to the phenomenal growth of Nollywood, which is the second biggest film industry after India’s Bollywood, over the years. ‘Queen of Nollywood International’, an award for aspiring Diaspora-based young actresses, is a major feature of the ceremony.

The Humble Traitor
, the first film in which the ‘Queen of Nollywood International’ 2016 winner, Gina Chidinma Neboh, acted will be premiered in Ludwigshafen on 2 December. The film also features German-based actors and actresses such as Chukwuma Chijioke, Kingsley Ndubuisi, Zuba, Agnes Emmanuel and Asa (ogbuebune).

The event organised by Shamar Konsult, will also confer Leadership and Excellence Awards on several persons, including members of the African community in Germany.

Queen of Nollywood Awards 2017 ceremony will feature a variety of entertainment activities, including comedy, cultural dances and music concerts.

Initiated by Urbanmingles Magazine Africa, the event debuted in Lagos in 2003 and resulted from a research project, entitled Who’s Who in the Nigeria Entertainment Industry. The Queen of Nollywood Awards is committed to increasing representation of African women in front of the camera in film, television and in traditional and new media.

According to the organizers, the event is dedicated to promoting opportunities for young African women, thereby encouraging creative projects, expanding and enhancing portrayals of Black women in all forms of global media advocacy and legacy projects.
