World’s biggest fair for food and agriculture opens in Berlin

The International Green Week has opened today in Berlin. The exhibition, which is the world’s biggest fair for food, agriculture and horticulture, will run until 29 January.

In a total of 26 exhibition halls, about 1,500 national and international exhibitors present typical regional products and services and invite visitors to discover the world’s foods and other treats.

The International Green Week Berlin, which has been a fixture on Berlin’s exhibition calendar since 1926, presents trends in food, agriculture and gardening from a global perspective.

Especially popular with families is the hands-on farm that offers glimpses behind the scenes of modern agriculture. The BioMarkt informs visitors about organic products. Animal Hall 25 is always a treat with its huge stables open for tours and changing daily demonstrations.

Hungary is this year’s official partner country of the International Green Week Berlin and it advertises its typical products and specialties at the fair.

With sales worth 172 billion euros in 2016, the food industry is the third largest industrial sector in Germany.
