I am more than happy to present this special edition of The African Courier. It is the first print issue in four years.
The African Courier launched as a bimonthly newspaper in February 1998 to report on Africa and the Diaspora experience at a time there was no publication reporting on the African community in Germany.
In February 2002, The African Courier was relaunched as a full-colour magazine while retaining the publication frequency of a bimonthly.
In January 2017, The African Courier went fully digital following the media industry trend especially among small publishing outfits.
The publishing company discontinued the print edition to fully focus on the development of its online platform to a daily updated website complimented by a weekly email newsletter service and active social media activities.
Thank you to the many readers who have contacted us in the past four years to offer their views on the changes in our operation.
We have decided to restructure our operation once again in line with the dictates of a rapidly changing media industry faced by the constant challenge of sustainability and the wish of our readers. And have concluded that a creative combination of print and online offerings will be the ideal way of serving our community.
Henceforth, The African Courier while remaining an online news medium will regularly publish print editions to address specific themes in curated special reports.
This special issue is dedicated to an appraisal of Africa, 60 years after independence from colonial rule, the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the empowerment of people of African origin in Germany.
Moreover, we interview Céphas Kosi Bansah, master technician, traditional chief and philanthropist. König Bansah, as he is popularly known in the German media, talks about how it was when he newly came to Germany in 1970, his chieftaincy title and how it has changed his life, and his activities to improve the situation of his people in Ghana, among other issues.
We hope you will enjoy reading this issue as much as we did putting it together.
