Emanuel Odiase Fights for European Heavyweight Title in Mannheim Showdown

German-Nigerian heavyweight prospect Emanuel Odiase is set for the defining moment of his young career as he fights for the European heavyweight title on Friday at the SAP Arena in Mannheim. The bout, part of the “Night of the Heavyweights” organised by Ringside Zone, will see the unbeaten 27-year-old face Britain’s experienced Nick Webb over ten rounds.

Standing at 2.03 metres, Odiase has long been regarded as one of Germany’s most promising heavyweights—a trajectory previously highlighted by The African Courier, which has followed his steady rise from a late starter in the sport to a knockout artist with ten wins, eight by stoppage. Fighting in Mannheim, close to his Heidelberg base, gives the contest the feel of a home fixture, with thousands expected to back him.

Odiase’s journey into boxing began relatively late at age 16, after initially pursuing football. Since then, his rapid development has been marked by agility unusual for a heavyweight, something he attributes to his early years on the pitch. His style and mindset have also been shaped by his admiration for Muhammad Ali, whose influence is visible not only in Odiase’s footwork but even in his choice of ring attire.

Preparation for the title fight has taken place in England under coach Joby Clayton, known for working with former world champion Anthony Joshua. Gruelling early-morning runs and intense conditioning sessions have been central to his training camp, reflecting a discipline inspired by the routines of his idol.

Beyond the headline clash, fans can expect a stacked fight card. A world title eliminator between Karen Chukhadzhian and Paddy Donovan adds international significance to the night. Rising talents will also be in action, including Alexander Okafor, who contests the German championship against Elija Uelkuseven, while heavyweights Peter Kadiru and Senad Gashi face off in a WBA Continental Europe bout. Further excitement comes from the IBF European lightweight title fight between Devrim Gökduman and Franklin Dwomoh, as well as a professional debut featuring E. Avagyan against Patrik Fiala.

The evening will also blend sport with entertainment, featuring performances by comedian Bülent Ceylan and rapper OG Keemo, among others.

Despite the growing hype, Odiase remains measured in his ambitions. Yet his confidence is unmistakable. He describes boxing as both art and science—a blend of technique, movement and knockout power that he believes defines a complete fighter.

On Friday night, in front of a packed arena and a national streaming audience, Odiase will have the chance to prove he belongs among Europe’s elite—and to take a decisive step toward international recognition.
