Nigerian Diaspora Organisation Holds Annual Gathering in Berlin

The Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) Germany e.V. will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 14 June in Berlin.

The gathering, which will be a hybrid event, will provide members with the opportunity to reflect on the state of the organisation and discuss current developments in Nigeria.

The 2025 AGM is especially significant for NIDO Germany. Although the organisation was officially registered in Germany on 26 February 2004, it was formally launched at the Hotel InterContinental in Berlin on 14 May 2005, at a ceremony chaired by the then Nigerian Ambassador to Germany, Prof. Tunde Adeniran.

This means the 2025 AGM commemorates the 20th anniversary of NIDO Germany’s official launch.

“Beyond deliberating on NIDO Germany’s affairs, we will also explore how the Nigerian diaspora can contribute more effectively to the development of Nigeria,” said Larry Bello, the organisation’s Public Relations Officer. “The desire to more meaningfully fulfil our mission of supporting national development is of great importance to NIDO Germany,” he added.

The meeting will also include the election of a new Executive Committee, which will steer the affairs of the organisation — the umbrella body for Nigerians living in Germany — for the next two years.

“Only bona fide members will be permitted to attend the meeting. If you are participating remotely, please ensure your name is correctly entered when joining the Zoom session,” Bello advised.

NIDO Germany is one of 19 chapters of NIDO Europe, which itself is one of the five continental zones of NIDO Worldwide. The other zones are NIDO Africa, NIDO Asia, NIDO Oceania and NIDO Americas.

NIDO, the single representative body recognised by the Federal Government of Nigeria as the umbrella organisation for Nigerians in the diaspora, was initiated in 2000 by then President Olusegun Obasanjo. It serves as a quasi-official platform for Nigerian professionals abroad, aimed at mobilising diaspora human, financial and other resources to support national development.
