Funke Akindele, others storm Frankfurt for Nollywood Festival

Nollywood royalty is coming to Germany! Award-winning actress, producer and director Funke Akindele, revered as Nigeria’s queen of cinema, will be one of the celebrated guests at this year’s Nollywood Film Festival Germany (NFFG), taking place from 8–9 August in Frankfurt am Main.

Joining Akindele are other Nollywood stars Charles Inojie, Rita Edochie and Rahama Sadau, promising a dazzling lineup that will light up the heart of Germany’s financial capital this weekend with the glamour and energy of Africa’s biggest film industry.

A Celebration of Nigerian Storytelling
The festival kicks off on Friday, 8 August, at the Deutsches Film Museum, with the premiere of Karma, a gripping new film produced by Isaac Izoya, the indefatigable founder and driving force behind the festival, and directed by Dr Henry Obidi. Also screening that evening is The Masked King, a captivating drama by Uche Montana.

Since its inception in 2002, the Nollywood Film Festival Germany has served as a cultural bridge, spotlighting Nigeria’s thriving film industry and fostering creative exchange between African and European filmmakers. Through screenings, panel discussions and networking opportunities, the festival celebrates Nollywood’s dynamic storytelling while building pathways for international collaboration.

Did you know? Nollywood is the second-largest film industry in the world by volume, producing over 2,500 films annually and captivating audiences from Lagos to London, Accra to Amsterdam. Its influence on fashion, language and music continues to expand globally, making events like NFFG essential for fans and filmmakers alike.

The NEGA Gala Nite will honour distinguished contributors to Nollywood with special awards, in a star-studded evening filled with entertainment, music and cultural celebration.

Performances by acclaimed artists such as Emperor Wadada, Paul Play Dairo and Clement Ofie will keep guests dancing well into the night. The event will also welcome high-profile dignitaries including Nigeria’s Consul General in Frankfurt, Ambassador (Dr) Yakubu A. Dadu, Dr Alex Usifo and Ben James, former assistant coach of the Super Eagles, among others.
