WAZOBIA 2025: Nigerian Day showcases cultural diversity in Potsdam

As part of the Africa Festival Month 2025 in Potsdam, the Nigerian Awareness Day – WAZOBIA will once again shine a spotlight on the rich culture, history and diversity of Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation.

Organized by ICDI e.V., the event, which takes place on 28 June in Potsdam, targets a wide audience including members of the Nigerian and African diaspora, cultural enthusiasts, and the general public in the Berlin-Brandenburg region.

WAZOBIA – a term derived from Nigeria’s three major languages: Yoruba (WA), Hausa (ZO), and Igbo (BIA) – symbolizes “Unity in Diversity.” True to this motto, the event offers an immersive platform to experience Nigeria’s multifaceted heritage.

Visitors can expect vibrant performances of traditional music and dance, culinary highlights such as Jollof rice and Suya, fashion and art exhibitions, and interactive workshops exploring Nigeria’s history, languages and political significance. Nollywood film screenings and panel discussions on Nigeria’s cultural influence across Africa are also on the program.

The project aims to promote intercultural exchange, raise awareness of Nigeria’s historical importance, strengthen the unity of the Nigerian diaspora and foster economic partnerships between Nigeria and Germany. It invites attendees to discover new perspectives and celebrate shared values.

The event will take place at Bassinplatz in Potsdam and is part of the broader Africa Festival, which showcases a variety of African cultures. Participants will include artists and performers from Nigeria and the diaspora, local initiatives, Nigerian restaurants and representatives of the Nigerian embassy.

Nigerian Awareness Day 2025 promises to be a celebration of knowledge, connection, and positive collaboration between Nigeria and Germany.
