Germany: Africa Fashion Week Returns Next Weekend with Style and Substance

The wait is nearly over: Africa Fashion Week Cologne (AFWC) returns for its third edition on 13–14 September 2025, bringing glamour, culture and creativity to the prestigious Sartory-Saal in the heart of Cologne.

The move to this iconic venue underscores the growing importance of the event, which has quickly established itself as one of the most exciting showcases of African and diasporic fashion in Europe.

A Weekend of Fashion, Music and Community

This year’s AFWC promises over 16 designers and 100 models across two packed days of fashion shows, live performances and networking.

On Saturday, 13 September, runway shows will spotlight bold new collections alongside live music and a designer showroom competition, where the audience gets to vote for their favourite creation. The evening will culminate in a lively networking party, with DJs keeping the celebration going late into the night.

The energy continues on Sunday, 14 September, with more presentations hosted by the charismatic duo Elli Lizz and Abeku Okyere. The final day offers a chance to connect with designers, discover new trends, and share in a celebration of African creativity.

Voices from the Creative Frontline

For designers, AFWC is more than just a catwalk — it’s a platform. “Showing my collection in Cologne means reaching audiences who might never travel to Lagos, Nairobi, or Accra,” says Ghanaian designer Ama Kusi, who will present her new line inspired by traditional Kente weaving. “It’s about telling our stories through fabric and design.”

Nigerian-German designer Chinedu Okorie, a returning participant, highlighted the community spirit of the event: “AFWC feels like family. It’s not only fashion, it’s a space where Africans in the diaspora come together to support each other’s creativity and connect with the wider German public.”

Local audiences are equally excited. Cologne resident Fatoumata Diallo, who attended the last edition, said: “I’m proud to see African fashion celebrated at this level in Germany. It makes me feel at home and reminds me of the richness of our cultures.”

Why This Edition Stands Out
  • New Venue: The Sartory-Saal offers a grander stage for the vibrant collections and performances.

  • Rising Talent: Emerging African and diaspora designers will showcase innovative takes on traditional craftsmanship.

  • Interactive Experience: The audience will play an active role in choosing standout designs during the competition.

More Than Fashion

Since its inception, AFWC has championed African fashion as both cultural expression and economic force. The event bridges heritage with modern aesthetics, giving visibility to creators whose work might otherwise be overlooked in Europe’s mainstream fashion circuits.

As Managing Director Linda Osei puts it: “We want AFWC to be a space where fashion, culture and community meet — where stories are shared and connections are built. Cologne is the perfect place for this celebration.”

How to Join

Tickets are still available through the official AFWC website. Whether you are a fashion lover, cultural enthusiast or simply curious, Africa Fashion Week Cologne 2025 promises an unforgettable weekend of style, music, and community.
