Davido hits 20 million followers on Instagram, becomes most followed African artiste

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has hit 20 million followers on Instagram.

The multiple-award wining musician is now the most followed African artiste on the Facebook-owned photo and video sharing social networking service.

As of January 2021, the most followed person on Instagram is Portuguese professional footballer Cristiano Ronaldo with over 275 million followers.

Davido also recently set a new record on Youtube as his video for the smash hit single “Fall’ hit 200 million views on Youtube. It was officially announced on the 5th of April 2021 that the views for the video of “Fall” by Davido had hit 200 million on the video streaming platform, making it the first Afrobeat music video to record 200 million views.

The single has sold up to 1.5 million copies globally to earn the undisputed badge of being the best selling Afrobeat song of all time.

Davido, aged 28, rose to fame after releasing “Dami Duro”, the second single from his debut studio album Omo Baba Olowo (2012). In 2012, Davido won the Next Rated award at The Headies. Between 2013 and 2015, he released a number of hit singles and in January 2016 signed a record deal with Sony Music. He then founded the record label Davido Music Worldwide (DMW).

Davido was cited as one of the Top 100 most influential Africans by New African magazine in 2019.
