The German city of Frankfurt will again host the Nollywood Film Festival Germany (NFFG) and its sister event Nollywood Europe Golden Award (NEGA) on 30-31 August. The yearly entertainment show, organized by Ehizoya Golden Entertainment e.V., features Nigerian film screenings, live music concerts and an awards night.
The main attraction of NFFG/ NEGA this year is the performance of Nigerian and indeed African super star 2Baba (aka 2Face Idibia) at the Gala/Awards night on 31 August. 2Baba’s appearance in Frankfurt is part of the Afrobeat legend’s European tour, celebrating his twenty years in show business.
The ‘20 Years A King Europe’ tour will also take 2Baba to Berlin, Essen, Zurich, Torino, Vienna, Goteborg and Malta.
Nollywood Film Festival will open on 30 August with the premiere of award-winning Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen’s film Wade. The movie exposes the harmful effects of female genital mutilation, which is still rampant among rural dwellers in some parts of Africa, and the heroic efforts of a woman, the film’s protagonist, to end it.
Nollywood Europe Golden Awards and Gala Night will hold on 31 August, when 2Baba will thrill the audience to a musical experience. Other artistes billed to perform at the event include Europe-based musicians, such as Don VS from Italy, Chuks Cbily (Germany), Lilian Dinma (Denmark), Mark Edo, the Shaking Shaking master (Spain), Keishera (Germany) and Ghana top star Zeal of VVIP (Germany), among others. 2Baba will also play a day after his appearance in Frankfurt at the prestigious Columbia Theater in Berlin.
Imasuen, 2Baba Idibia, Nollywood actress Rita Edochie, artiste manager Efe Omoregbe and Don VS, among others, will be honoured at the event, to be moderated by Fiddy Ice. Also listed for a special award is Alhaji Bola Adenekan, a Germany-based philanthropist, who has led German doctors on several medical missions to Nigeria.
The Consul General of the Nigerian Consulate in Frankfurt, Ambassador Suleiman Dauda Umar, is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour at the event.
NFFG is a platform created for Nigerian/African film makers to showcase their movies to Europeans and Africans in the diaspora, while NEGA is the arm of the event designed to honour Nollywood actors, comedians, musicians and other stakeholders.
Isaac Izoya, founder and director of NFFG/ NEGA who has been promoting Nollywood for nearly two decades in Europe, promised that this year’ show will be grand. He’s put together a programme that will beat last year’s, which was really a huge success
