South East Governors Forum have resolved to meet with President Muhammad Buhari on Thursday over the situation of Ndigbo in Nigeria.

This was a major decision of their meeting, held at the Government House in Enugu, with other Leaders from the region  on Monday.

Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, presided over the meeting.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and his Abia State counterpart, Okezie Ikpeazu, also attended the parley.

Others in attendance include the Ohanaeze Ndigbo President, Nnia Nwodo, Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe,  former Enugu state Governor,Jim Nwobodo, Sen. Victor Umeh, and other leaders of Igbo extraction.

Speaking after the meeting that lasted about 4 hours, Mr Umahi said that they had resolved to meet with President Muhammahu Buhari on the welfare of Ndi-Igbo.

Among the issues to be raised with Buhari is the closure of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

The Minister of Aviation,  Hadi Sirika, last week told  the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation that N10bn was needed   to  rehabilitate  the runway and fix other things at the airport. Igbo leaders fear that  the airport could be abandoned, which would impose untold hardship on the people of the region.

A statement by Mr Umahi’s Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze, said that the Governors noted that the full details of their meeting will be made available after their meeting with the President on Thursday.
