THE AFRICAN COURIER. Reporting Africa and its Diaspora! The African Courier is an international magazine published in Germany to report on Africa and the Diaspora African experience. No fewer than 41 Nigerians, which included 33 males and 8 females, deported from the United Kingdom to Nigeria arrived Lagos today (1 February).
The deportees arrived at the cargo terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja in an unmarked Airbus aircraft which touched ground at exactly 7:40 a.m.
According to the correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), among the deportees are prisoners who would complete their jail terms in Nigeria.
“Some of the people affected are those who haven’t completed their prison sentences. They would be taken to Nigerian prisons to complete their terms. Although we cannot tell the various offences, we believe others could be drug-related and immigration problems,” according to the spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency, South-West Zone, Ibrahim Farinloye.
The news agency also gathered that among those deported were UK residents whose documents had expired.
Some elderly persons were among those deported.
“The deportees looked sober with forlorn faces as they disembarked one and after the other from the aircraft,” according to NAN.
Officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), police men and aviation security personnel received the deportees.
