As Germany grapples with the coronavirus crisis, Chuks Lewis Ehiwario, migrant rights activist and Vice Chairman, Foreigners Advisory Council of the city of Kassel, makes a case for refugees and asylum-seekers whose situation seems to be forgotten in the public health crisis caused by the COVID-19 epidemic:
—–
Today, our way of life has changed because of COVID-19 and the compulsory restrictive measures put in place to check its outbreak.
Hundreds of millions of dollars is being spent to quickly develop a vaccine against the disease.
COVID-19 is a disease that affects everyone irrespective of colour or race or social class.
What about racism and discrimination that affect minorities in daily life?
What are we doing about it?

We have been complaining for weeks now about the social restrictions imposed as a result of the new coronavirus outbreak.
How many of us are thinking about the refugees here in Germany legally placed in isolation centres because of their social status?
Their lives matters too.
“Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted, the indifference of those who should have known better, the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most, that has made it possible for evil to triumph,” — Haile Selassi
Let’s work together to stop Racism and Discrimination in our societies.
Strong people stand up for themselves, but stronger people stand up for others. Be the reason for someone to smile!
