THE AFRICAN COURIER. Reporting Africa and its Diaspora! The African Courier is an international magazine published in Germany to report on Africa and the Diaspora African experience. The first issue of the bimonthly magazine appeared on the newsstands on 15 February 1998. The African Courier is a communication forum for European-African political, economic and cultural exchanges, and a voice for Africa in Europe.
The national airline of Italy, ITA Airways, will launch weekly non-stop flights from Rome to Accra, Ghana, on 6 June. The new development increases travel options to the West African country.
“This strategic expansion to include the Rome-Accra route underscores the airline’s commitment to providing enhanced connectivity and fostering international travel within the sub-region,” ITA Airways said.
From Germany, the airline is offering connections from Frankfurt and Munich to Rome where travellers will change to the non-stop flights to Accra.
According to a timetable published on the airline’s website, ITA Airways will operate three weekly flights from 6 June 2024 to 30 June 2024 from its hub at Rome-Fiumicino airport (FCO). The frequency will be increased to 4 flights per week from 1 July 2024 to 29 March 2025.
Reiseservce Sacco, Germany’s leading travel agency that specialises on West Africa, has begun booking travellers on the new flights.
Upon the commencement of the flights, ITA Airways will stand as the exclusive airline offering direct connection between Rome and Accra.
The introduction of the Rome-Accra flights is part of the airline’s ongoing programme to increase its presence in the African and Middle Eastern markets through an extensive route expansion for the summer season of 2024.
The airline had announced the launch of six new routes in the regions last December to compete with other European airlines such as Air France, KLM and Brussels Airlines.
In respect of African destinations, the Rome-Accra launch on 6 June is expected to be followed by a new direct connection to Dakar, Senegal, in July.
ITA Airways, the flag carrier of Italy, was founded in 2020 as successor to the defunct Alitalia. The airline, a member of the SkyTeam airline alliance, flies to over 70 scheduled domestic, European and intercontinental destinations.
