The inaugural version of the Nigerian Ambassador’s Cup Germany football tournament took place on 14 May in Berlin. The trophy was contested for by the chapters of the Nigerian Community Germany (NCG) e.V. Four teams – NCG Hamburg, NCG Wolfsburg, NCG Ausburg and NCG Berlin/Cottbus – participated in the final stages.
The competition was organised by the national body of NCG, which is the umbrella organisation of Nigerian associations in Germany. The trophy and prize money were donated by the Embassy of Nigeria Berlin, which was represented at the event by its acting head of mission (Chargé d’Affaires), Kenneth Okeh.

In his opening speech, Mr Okeh appreciated the introduction of the annual sport event which, he said, was a platform for fostering unity among Nigerians in Germany.
The trophy was won by NCG Hamburg, who defeated NCG Augsburg 2-1. The third place went to NCG Wolfsburg after they beat NCG Berlin/Cottbus in a penalty shoot-out after a 2-2 draw at full time.
