Berlin, 14 May 2025 – A bold new chapter begins for Berlin’s literary and cultural scene this Friday, 16 May, with the opening of “One More Chapter”, the city’s latest BuchBar – a creative fusion of bookstore, bar, restaurant and cultural space – in the heart of Friedrichshain.
Founded by Stefanie Hirsbrunner, Karla Kutzner and Venice Trommer, the trio behind the acclaimed African Book Festival Berlin, One More Chapter extends their mission of spotlighting African and Afro-diasporic voices in literature. The new venue is located directly beside the InterKontinental Bookshop, which is uniquely specialised in literature from Africa and its global diaspora – the only one of its kind in Germany.
The concept blends books and community with culinary and cultural flair. Guests can look forward to regular readings, book launches and panel talks focused on African literature and contemporary issues from the continent and its diaspora. “With One More Chapter, we’re creating a space where storytelling, cultural exchange, and enjoyment come together – with Africa at the centre,” say the founders.
Bringing a pan-African culinary spirit to the bar is Chef Sibusiso Mntambo, a South African trained in high-end hospitality in Cape Town. His vibrant dishes – such as Peri Peri Red Rice Bowls with plantains, peanut rayu, and wakame slaw – reflect Africa’s rich culinary diversity. The menu, which also features treats like Cocoa Spiced Cake with coconut and chocolate ganache, is designed to be as creative and layered as the literature on the shelves.
The grand opening will be marked by a reading from Behzad Karim Khani, a celebrated voice in Berlin’s literary landscape, and a live performance by swing band Boxi Barré starting at 8:00 PM.
With One More Chapter, the founders reaffirm their commitment to celebrating African stories – not only in print, but in space, sound and taste.
