New airline takes off in Nigeria

Green Africa Airways Limited has announced the commencement of flight operations following its inaugural flight at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, on Thursday.

The airline recently announced that it had received the Air Operators Certificate from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

According to a statement by the airline, operations officially commenced with the inaugural flight from Lagos to Abuja on one of its ATR72-600s.

The statement said customers and many Green Africa stakeholders from Lagos checked in at Green Africa counters situated in the Alpha Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed Airport 1 (General Aviation Terminal) and were given a special welcome to Abuja with a water canon salute as the aircraft touched down on the ramp.

It said as part of the inaugural flight ceremony, customers were engaged inflight in an interactive ‘knowledge test’ session, adding that customers each won a voucher with 10kg baggage allowance for their next flight with Green Africa.

The Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Babawande Afolabi, said, “We are on a mission to connect more people in Nigeria and Africa to their dreams and opportunities.

“It is what kept us going despite the odds over the last several years and it is what will continue to sustain this franchise even after we are all gone.”
