THE AFRICAN COURIER. Reporting Africa and its Diaspora! The African Courier is an international magazine published in Germany to report on Africa and the Diaspora African experience. The first issue of the bimonthly magazine appeared on the newsstands on 15 February 1998. The African Courier is a communication forum for European-African political, economic and cultural exchanges, and a voice for Africa in Europe.
Some Nigerians in Germany have faulted the method employed by Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist, in his call for a revolution against the Nigerian government.
Speaking in a video interview with Samson Itondo of Afrobizgermany, the commentators said Sowore’s revolution call could have a partisan political undertone, having lost his bid to become the country’s president at the 2019 presidential election.
Although the Nigerians, who converged in Berlin, Germany, recently for the 2019 Abia State annual grill party, did not support Sowore’s arrest by the Nigerian government, they were of the opinion that the call to revolution was poorly planned.
One of the respondents, an apparent supporter of Nnamdi Kalu, a political activist and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), said Sowore’s arrest was not surprising because “there’re people who don’t want Nigeria to get to where we all want Nigeria to be”.
Sowore was arrested and incarceration by officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) in August and he’s still in detention. Tagged #RevolutionNow, the protest was aimed at marching against kidnapping, corruption, killings, economic hardship, among other ills ravaging the country.
