Germany: Kevin Uguru congratulates Ambassador Jonathan Ojadah over US President’s award

Afro-German politician and member of the CDU party Kevin Uguru has congratulated Ambassador Dr Jonathan Ojadah over the award conferred on him by US President Joe Biden.

Ojadah, a Nigerian humanitarian icon, was honoured by the American leader with the ‘President’s Lifetime Achievement Award’ for his immense contributions to international peace and development.

“I, on behalf of the American people, extend my heartfelt appreciation to you for your volunteer leadership, and I encourage you to continue to answer the call to serve. I congratulate you on taking it upon yourself to contribute to the public good, and I’m proud to present you with the Lifetime Achievement award,” President Biden wrote in a personally-signed letter, dated 20 May 2024.

President Biden will present the award to Dr Ojadah, who is the Global President of the United Nations International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC) in July at a grand event and award presentation ceremony in Houston.

The presidential honour is reserved for those who contribute more than 4,000 hours of volunteering service in their lifetime, and recipients are issued a personalised certificate, an official pin, medallion or coin and a congratulatory letter from the president of the United States of America.

Hon Uguru, an integration councillor in the western German city of Essen, lauded Dr Ojadah, who is also the IRDCUN-EU Permanent Representative to the United Nations, for his tireless efforts for global peace and good governance. He described the ‘President’s Lifetime Achievement Award’ conferred on him as “a well-deserved honour”.

Uguru is a co-host of Dr Ojadah who is currently visiting Berlin to inaugurate the European chapter of UNIPGC, an organization devoted to the promotion of Sustainable Peace, Good Governance Advocacy and Poverty Eradication with Africa as its main focus.

In the pursuit of its objectives, UNIPGC implements enlightenment campaigns, seminars, conferences, interventions, conflict resolutions, mediations, publications, lectures and deployment of peace emissaries as the need arises.

Ojadah, an international business development expert and investment promotion consultant, is the first African and youngest diplomat to head the Supreme Council of UNIPGC since the organization’s founding in 2002.

The inauguration ceremony of the European chapter of UNIPGC, which takes place on Saturday in the German federal capital city, will witness the induction of its officials for the continent.

Among other activities, Ambassador Ojadah will pay courtesy visit to the Acting Head of Mission at the Nigerian Embassy in Berlin. He is also expected to meet notable German civil society leaders.

Uguru, a member of the association of elected politicians of African origin in Germany (Vereinigung Mandatsträger*innen Afrikanischer Abstammung e.V.), is a leader of the organised migrant community in Germany. Beyond his work advocating for the interests of recent arrivals in the country, he’s also involved in issues of development cooperation and investment in Africa.
