Mozambique has officially launched a new digitally enabled e-Visa platform, marking a major step in the country’s tourism drive and broader digital transformation agenda. The system is designed to simplify travel procedures, modernise border management and make the country more accessible to international visitors, including an increasing number of travellers from Germany.
The platform, introduced under the government’s Visit Mozambique initiative, allows travellers from 183 countries to apply online for different visa categories, including tourist, business, humanitarian, sports and cultural visas, as well as long-term stays of up to two years. Applications can be completed fully online, with secure payments and visas issued electronically before departure.
Mozambique has seen steady growth in international arrivals, welcoming over 1.1 million visitors in 2023. Germany is emerging as an important European source market. In 2018 alone, nearly 89,000 Germans visited the country, and outbound travel from Germany continues to rise, driven by demand for sunny, nature-rich destinations. Mozambique’s beaches, coral reefs and wildlife reserves position it well to benefit from this trend.
The new system is powered by VFS Global, which provides the digital infrastructure while the Mozambican authorities retain full control over visa decisions. According to the company, the platform features automated passport data extraction, an integrated photo editor, cloud-based processing, enhanced cybersecurity and 24/7 multilingual customer support.
Officials say the e-Visa rollout will not only improve the travel experience but also support investment, job creation and skills development, while strengthening Mozambique’s image as an open and modern destination for tourism and business.
