The Union of Ghanaian Associations in Germany (UGAG) elected a new National Executive Committee at its recent bi-annual conference held in Kassel. The conference, attended by representatives of local Ghanaian associations from all over Germany, chose the following 7-member National Executive Committee officials: Mr. Akwasi Opoku Edusei – President; Mr. Alexander Okai Anane – Vice-president; Mr. Aaron Hooper – General Secretary; Mr. Paul Darmoe – Deputy General Secretary; Mr. Paul Hossou – Financial Secretary; Mrs. Cecilia Biritwum – Organising Secretary; and Mr. Emmanuel Ossei-Wusu – Deputy Organising Secretary.
The elected officials of UGAG, the umbrella organization for Ghanaian associations in Germany, were sworn in by Hon. Dwamena Yeboah, Deputy Head of Mission, Ghana Embassy, Berlin.
The newly-elected officials have pledged to strengthen the local associations and to embark on a membership drive to win new associations into the fold of UGAG.
The emergence of Edusei was positively greeted at the event as he’s one of the most dedicated members of the body since its founding. After the election, a delegate said, “Mr Edusei is an accomplished leader who has served as General Secretary and Vice-president of UGAG. We believe he will bring his significant insights and experience to UGAG.”
UGAG has scheduled its annual National Representative Council (NRC) meeting for 2 May 2020 in Freiburg. Ghana Union Freiburg will host the meeting.
Four months later, UGAG together with Ghana Union Mannheim will organize a Ghana Cultural Festival (GCF) on 19 September 2020 at the Interkulturelles Haus Mannheim in Mannheim. The festival is expected to attract all Ghanaian traditional chiefs and queens living in Germany.
Ghana Union Mannheim and Ludwigshafen e.V. which is hosting the GCF event will also be celebrating 20 years of its founding. It will be a day of cultural display and flair.
The biannual conference in Kassel took place from 8-10 November 2019.
