This year’s Africa Day Hamburg will take place on 24-28 May. The event, which celebrates the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (now African Union) 54 years ago, takes place annually in the merchant city.

The Day, will among other events, feature an investment forum which brings together German businessmen and women who are interested in doing business in Africa and those already active in the continent, social entrepreneurs and  members of the African community in Hamburg.

The Africa Day Investment Forum aims at intensifying economic relations between the City of Hamburg and Africa. Last year, about 100 entrepreneurs from Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Cameroon, Germany and Switzerland, among others, discussed with each other and African ministers about investments in Africa at the conference.

In 2017, the Forum will, once again, offer high-ranking networking opportunities, bringing together entrepreneurs and political decision-makers who will deliberate on creating jobs in Africa through future-oriented projects and joint ventures.

Special guests are expected from other African countries as well.

The event, which takes place on 24 May and holds at the prestigious Grand Elysee hotel, will be rounded up with a business dinner at which awards will be presented in different categories to deserving recipients.

Africa Day Hamburg 2017 will also feature cultural shows, a bazaar and music concerts in the celebration of African culture on 25-28 May at the Wandsbeker Marktplatz. Billed to perform at the events are well-known African artists such as Nana Acheampong and René Tenenjou (“König der Löwen”).

Organiser of the Africa Day Hamburg is IMIC e. V. (Intercultural Migrant Integration Centre e. V.) whose president, Sylvaina Gerlich, and her team have been staging the event since 2012.
