Germany: Empowerment Centre for Africans opens in Dortmund

The western German city Dortmund will witness the grand opening of a centre for Africans on 31 January. Afrika-Haus promises to be a veritable centre for community empowerment, as it’s a place to seek help to the myriad of issues faced by African migrants, as well as an entertainment hub.

Afrika-Haus Dortmund, established by the non-governmental organization AfricanTide Union e.V., will open on 31 January.

A charity dedicated to providing the African diaspora, and all people with an interest in Africa, a platform to experience events and engage in discussions on development, education, business and culture, the centre boasts 2,000 square meter of floor space, including offices, halls for conferences and workshops as well as a restaurant offering African delicacies.

Other facilities in the Afrika-Haus include a museum, a library, a media studio, a child day care, an IT centre and co-working space for African voluntary associations.

The centre will offer advisory services on issues associated with migration, including diaspora associations, development, education and integration, as well as providing a place for entertainment.

According to Dr RosaLyn Dressman, the chairperson of AfricanTide, Afrika-Haus Dortmund will regularly offer conferences and workshops on issues ranging from international development co-operation to integration of Africans in Germany, from youth empowerment to education and training. Moreover, it’s also a place where Africans and their friends can celebrate African culture and enjoy entertainment.

“AfrikaHaus serves as a major point of contact, bundles the synergies of all Africans, friends and lovers of Africa,” she explained.

“We want to build a united community of Africans and also meet a demand from its members seeking innovative ways and incentives to grow stronger together.”
