African Associations and Churches in Berlin to Meet on Sunday

The first Network Meeting of African social, cultural, development, national and religious organisations in Berlin takes place on Sunday, 20 November 2022.

Convened by The African Network of Germany TANG e.V., the meeting is to bring African organisations together to get to know each other and collectively identify the needs of their community and deliberate on how to address these needs.

Keynote speaker at the event is Dr Sylvie Nantcha, Chairperson of TANG e.V.

According to Femi Awoniyi, the representative of TANG in Berlin, the aim of the organisation, which represents more than 800 African associations and individuals in Germany, is to support African organisations in Berlin to access public funding for the implementation of integration and community development projects.

“African associations and churches as well as Muslim groups are very active in integration work but seldom receive public financial support. The network we are building in Berlin will change this story,” he added.

All the districts of Berlin have one funding program or the other for integration work but African organisations are not benefitting from these programs like they should, Awoniyi explained. “We must do what other migrant communities are doing which is to network and synergise.”

The meeting, which will take place in the office of TANG in the Berlin district of Moabit, is expected to provide an enduring platform for cooperation among African organisations in Berlin and the state surrounding it, Brandenburg.
