MoneyGram’s many ways of supporting Africans in Germany

MoneyGram, a leading provider of international money transfers, knows how difficult it can be for Africans in Germany to settle in their new home country while keeping close ties to family and friends in Africa and supporting them from a distance. Following the slogan “That’s the African Way – discover your way”, MoneyGram contributes to both important aspects.

Discover your options

MoneyGram offers their African customers many options to send and receive money. Senders can either visit their nearest MoneyGram location around the corner or they can visit moneygram.de to send money online. The amount can be collected in cash within minutes* at one of more than 30,000 MoneyGram locations. To save your loved ones time, money can also be sent directly to a bank account or  to a mobile wallet**. It goes without saying that customers benefit from low fees and great exchange rates. For example, online money transfers to any bank account in Ghana only costs €0.99.

However, MoneyGram offers more than fast, reliable and affordable money transfers to the African community. The company supports African charities and associations and is frequently seeking the interaction with the diaspora. Recent examples: The offering of Afrika! Community Awards sponsoring and the #thatsmyway Video Competition, both initiatives which have been implemented with the popular online portal afrika!

Afrika! Community Awards – €3000 project sponsoring

Until the 31st of August individuals, associations or companies from the African diaspora can apply for a sponsorship of altogether €3000! MoneyGram & the afrika! Portal hand over the awards in 4 categories: Sports, Social Engagement, Companies & Cultures. A jury consisting of representatives of the African Community and MoneyGram will choose the winners. The four first places in each category will win a €500 MoneyGram sponsorship, the four second places will receive €250.

#thatsmyway video competition – win a trip home!
The #thatsmyway video competition, initiated by MoneyGram and afrika! is calling for video messages from Africans in Germany. All you have to do is to upload a short video where you briefly explain where you are from, how long you have been living in Germany and what’s “your way of life”. Once the video has been uploaded on www.afrikaportal.eu, participants should motivate their friends to vote for them. The winner will obtain a trip to his or her African home country!
