The winners of the 2018 afrika!Community Award!

For the second year, associations, individuals and companies who sustainably support the African community in Germany or implement aid projects in Africa from Germany have been honoured by MoneyGram, the world’s second largest provider of international money transfer services.

The winners of the second edition of the afrika!Community Award, sponsored by MoneyGram, were presented with cheques to support their activities at the award ceremony on Tuesday (13 November) in Frankfurt.

Two winners (first and second-placed) were selected in each of the categories:

Social Engagement/Education:
Maisha e.V., a self-help group for African women in Germany, and Kita Sankofa e.V., which supports early education of children with African origin

Entrepreneurship:
Oriwo Design, an African fashion design company, and Tabotgraphy, a photography enterprise focused on the African community

Culture:
Verein Roots and Wings e.V., which organises and African beauty festival, and Africa Charity und Kultur e.V. that undertakes aid projects in DR Congo.

Sports:
FC Afrisko Berlin and TITAN e.V. – both are African amateur football clubs in Berlin

The first four winners – Maisha, Oriwo Design, Verein Roots and Wings and FC Afrisko Berlin, each received a MoneyGram sponsorship of 500 euros, while the four runners-up were supported with 250 euros each.

From cultural groups to social clubs, from bodies promoting integration to aid organizations, there are more than 700 African associations in Germany. And the award, sponsored by the global money-transfer company MoneyGram, recognises and supports them.

The eight winners, who were selected out of the 150 applicants for the award this year, were presented with their prizes by Mrs Irmgard Bruecker and Mr Andrea Maramotti, executive directors of MoneyGram.

The annual sponsorship scheme, sponsored by MoneyGram, is organized by the media and marketing company za:media GmbH.
